Catherine E. (Louke) Gear, 97, of Medina, Ohio, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harold Langevin officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.

Catherine Gear

Catherine E. Louke Gear, 97, of Medina, Ohio, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.

She was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Huttonsville, to the late Oscar and Louisa Rosencrance Louke.

Catherine earned a master’s degree in education from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, and began her long and successful career as an elementary school teacher in the Randolph County School System. She and her family moved to Ohio in 1956 where she was employed by the Beachwood School System until her

retirement.

After retirement, she and her husband moved to Medina, Ohio, where they enjoyed working on their farm. Catherine was a long-time member of the Medina Beekeepers Association.

She was the loving mother of Ernest W. (Hazel) Gear, Delores J. (John) Drlik and Dr. Robert D. (Marilyn) Gear Sr.; stepmother of Wanda Herron; foster mother of Willa Jean (Charles) Poe; dear grandmother of Deborah Gear, Gregory Gear, Howard (Therese) Gear, John (Roberta) Drlik. James (Michele) Drlik, Laura (David) Drlik-Hart, Dr. Robert D. (Marnie) Gear Jr., Kevin Gear, Dr. Brian (Shari) Gear and Karen (Thomas) Martin; great-grandmother of 29; sister of Greta Hellwig and Betty Ceruitti; and sister-in-law of Helen Louke.

She is also survived by many dear friends, especially Glenn Halsey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Gear; stepson-in-law, William Herron; granddaughter, Diana Herron; sister and brother-in-law, Eula (Sam) McCullough; brother, John Louke; and brothers-in-law, Oscar Hellwig and William Ceruitti.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Tomblyn Funeral Home, 45 Randolph Ave., Elkins, WV 26241. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville.
