Dessie Mae Herron Harris, 86, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at her home.
She was born April 26, 1927, in Queens, a daughter of the late Boyd and Pearl Loudin Herron.
On Oct. 4, 1947, she married Wilbur “Bookie” Harris, who preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1979.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Delana Evans; six brothers, Leonard, George, Raymond, Lester, Ellis and Stewart Herron; and two sisters, Violetta Herron and Opal Coberly.
She is survived by four daughters, Marian Bailey and husband, Bob, of Volga, Vonda Rice and husband, Pete, of Hodgesville and Marcia Harvey and husband, Dennis, and Karla Harris, all of Buckhannon; two sons, Dennis Harris and wife, Sherry, of Century, and Tim Harris and wife, Katrina, of Volga; grandsons, DJ and fiancee, Angie, Craig and wife, Brenda, Bobby and wife, Jonnie, Chris and wife, Mollie, Aaron and fiancee, Tasha and Nic; granddaughters, Delana and husband, Quinton, Brandi and husband, Tommy, Collette and husband, Jimmy, and Kelley and husband, Reggie; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Herron and wife, Charlene, of Ivanhoe, Va., and Elmer Herron of Spartansburg, Pa.; sister-in-law, Mabel Herron of Ashtabula, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Harris was a homemaker and a member of Heaston United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all.
Friends will be received Sunday, Jan. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mary Ellen Finegan officiating. Burial will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
