The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 8 today. Today, at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, a wake service will be recited by the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF. On Thursday, Jan. 23, Mrs. Carlucci will be moved to Saint Brendan Catholic Church where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF will be the Presider, and interment will follow in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale.

Dora Michalena Tarantelli Carlucci, 88, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Friday, May 8 1925, in Pratola Peligna, in the Abruzzi Region, Italy, a daughter of the late Joseph Tarantelli and Frances Mastrogusippe Tarantelli. At the age of 3, she with her mother, sister, Jean, and brother, Tony, moved to the United States.

On Nov. 15, 1952, at Coalton, she was married to Arthur J. Carlucci, who preceded her in death Oct. 17, 2001. They had celebrated 49 years of marriage.

She is survived by two sisters, Angela Miller and husband, Clarence, and Cecelia “Sissy” Ancell, all of Elkins; two nephews, Michael Miller and wife, Robin, of Elkins and Joseph Tarantelli and wife, Lauren, of Oklahoma; two nieces, Deborah Recknor, of Elkins and Jayne Hunt of North Carolina; two great-nieces, Cathie Recknor and Megan Sessions, both of Elkins; two great-great-nephews, Anthony and Franklin Tarantelli of Oklahoma; two great-great-nieces, Kinley McCallister of Elkins and Isabella Tarantelli of Oklahoma; and one sister-in-law, Karen Tarantelli of Scott Depot. She will be greatly missed by her dog, “Buddy.”

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony and Ernest Tarantelli; and two sisters, Jean Antolini and Valeria Tarantelli.

She was a graduate of Coalton Twelve Year School with the class of 1944, and then went on to graduate from Morgantown Beauty College. After graduating, she taught at a beauty college in the Washington, D.C. area, where she was a hairdresser for many years. She was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church and the Holy Rosary Guild.
