Hartsel Findley

Mr. Hartsel Strother “Dock” Findley, 98, a resident of Point Pleasant Road near Belington, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2014, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 8, 1915, at Belington, a son of the late Charles Lowrey and Melvina Maude (Stalnaker) Findley.

On Jan. 11, 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Violetta Goss, who preceded him in death Dec. 10, 2006, after 69 years of marriage.

He is survived by four daughters, Jeanette “Pat” Booth of Gatlinburg, Tenn., who cared for Dock at his home; Clara Louise McCauley of Philippi, Eleanor Biller and husband, Cleve, of Morgantown and Sandra Sue Findley and husband, Larry Kennedy, of Belington; and nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Hugh, Guy, Russell and Clyde Findley; and one sister, Texie Logan. Also preceding him in death were three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Findley attended Point Pleasant Grade School and he was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II, where he had received training to be an airplane mechanic. Mr. Findley was a farm hand and was employed for Gordon Posten for many years in the construction trade. He was a member of Valley Bend Baptist Church near Belington.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, and again Saturday from 8 until 11 a.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joe Bowen and the Rev. Leon Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington where the presentation of the American flag will be accorded.
