Lester Mullenax

Lester Reed Mullenax, 82, a resident of the Holly Meadows community, St. George, and a well-known farmer of Tucker County, departed this life Wednesday evening, Jan. 29, 2014, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in declining health.

He was born Tuesday, May 5, 1931, at Pierce, a son of the late Clyde Franklin and Rosa Ellen Knotts Mullenax.

On July 2, 1950, at Parsons, he was married to the former Orlen Lydia Eye Mullenax, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are one son, Eric Lester Mullenax and wife, Kim; two daughters, Gwenevere Diane “Gwen” Gilbert and husband, James, and Jacqueline Gail “Jackie” Cale and husband, Jerry, all of St. George; and six grandchildren, James T., Kelsey, Lesley, Lydia, Tate and Andrew.

Preceding him in death is one brother, Richard Franklin Mullenax.

He attended the one-room school at Sugarland and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1949. He was a former employee of General Motors Co. in Baltimore, Md., and Mullenax Lumber Co. of Parsons. He was a construction worker, coal miner and a former employee for Spessert Lumber Co. He was a member of the Labor Union and a member of the Tucker County Senior Center, where he drove the senior van transporting people to their appointments. He enjoyed hunting, stock sales and was well versed in horses. He loved his children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 5-8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Neil Precht and the Rev. James Gilbert will officiate, and interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadow.
