Reta Catherine Phillips, 70, of Philippi, died, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Mansfield Place, Philippi, following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 16, 1943, at Moatsville, a daughter of the late Willie Arnold and Catherine Hazel (Shaffer) Freeman.
On April 19, 1962, she was married to James Kenneth Phillips, who survives at Mansfield Place.
Also surviving are one daughter, Catherine V. Stemple and husband, John, Clarksburg; one son, James William Phillips and wife, Rhonda Jill, Roanoke,Va.; one brother, Lester Freeman, Moatsville; one sister, Nola Hunt, Leavittsburg, Ohio; five grandchildren, Tavia Grace (Frankie) Defazio, Tanya Rochelle Stemple, Tamara Catherine Phillips, Kara Renee (Justin) Halsey and James Joseph Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Grayce Jo Defazio and Anna Capri Defazio.
She was also preceded in death by seven sisters, Nellie Petrosian, Hazel Dell Shaw, Ola Talkington, Ades Benoit, Lillian Freeman, Violet Freeman and Grace Freeman; and by four brothers, James Freeman, Ernest Freeman, Arnold Freeman and Billie Freeman.
Mrs. Phillips was retired as a teacher’s aide in the kindergarten class at Kasson Elementary and Middle School. She was a member Shiloh Church of the Brethren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main Street, Philippi. Pastor Hal Sonafrank and Pastor Garry Clem will officiate and interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour on Saturday.
