Twila Sue Hoover Shifflett, 63, of Bartow, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mrs. Shifflett was born May 22, 1950, in Bartow, and was the daughter of the late Elmer Burt and Violet Oxley Hoover.
Twila was a born again Christian and attended Frank Church of the Nazarene. She had been a seamstress for the sewing plant in Monterey, Va., as well as a cook at the Hermitage Motel. Her love for gospel music involved her as a lead singer and guitar player for the Canaan Crusaders.
Other than her parents, Twila was preceded in death by first husband, William “Bill” H. Galford; a sister, Wanda Lee Hoover Waybright; and a brother-in-law, Alvy Melvin Waybright.
Family members left to cherish her memories are her husband, James H. Shifflett; a sister, Barbara Alice Hoover Sacks (Bruce) of Bethlehem, Ga.; a niece, Treana Dawn Waybright Carr (Brett) of Bartow; nephews, Michael Lee Waybright (Carola) of Arbovale, Timothy Doyle (Tonya), Greg Doyle and Billy Doyle all of Georgia: as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
The family will receive their family and friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services for Mrs. Shifflett will be conducted at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale Saturday, Jan. 25, at noon with Pastor Gary Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Wilmoth Cemetery near Bartow.
Pallbearers for Twila will be Mike, Christopher and Travis Waybright, Brett, Spencer and Brandal Carr and Doug Jones.
