Jean Poling

Mrs. Mary Jean Pharis Poling, 78, a resident of Serpell Avenue in Belington, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, Feb. 5, 2014, in the emergency department of Davis Medical Center in Elkins. She had been in her usual health, and death was sudden and unexpected.

She was born Jan. 16, 1936, near Belington, a daughter of the late Jack Andrew and Flossie Elizabeth Kelly Pharis.

On Oct. 1, 1959, she was united in marriage to Carrel D. Poling, who preceded her in death Sept. 26, 2009.

She is survived by three sisters, Betty Poling of Springfield Ohio, Mildred DeCesare of Providence R.I., and Maxine Browning of Sun City Fla.; and four brothers, Nelson Pharis and wife, Cora Mae, of Belington, Harl Pharis of Belington, Dr. Richard Pharis and Jackie Pharis and wife, Judy of Belington. Other survivors include a special sister-in-law, whom she thought of as a sister, Joyce Zorns of Ohio; special nephew, Carl Poling; several other nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and cousins; and a whole host of friends and extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Poling; three brothers, Virgil, William and Roy Pharis; and one sister, Elsie Browning.

Jean attended the schools of Barbour County and had lived in Medina, Ohio, for many years with her husband and son, moving back to Belington in 1997. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington where she was a member of United Methodist Women. Jean was very active in all church functions especially bereavement dinners. She volunteered daily at Talbott Personal Care in Belington and truly loved helping people. She loved all those who loved her and lived her life fully from day to day. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her especially by her family and church family.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6-9 p.m. today and again Sunday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Judy Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in Talbott Cemetery near Belington.
