Joanne Simmons, 53, of Belington, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in
She was born Dec. 12, 1960, at Anchorage, Alaska, a daughter of Wanda Regina (Phillips) Simmons, who survives at Belington and the late Charles Ray Simmons Sr.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one sister, Sharon M. Simmons of Belington; two brothers, Charles R. Simmons Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Philippi and Franklin L. Simmons of Belington; two nephews, Jeffrey and Christopher Simmons; two nieces, Charlene Brooks and Patricia Simmons; three grandnieces, Vanessa Reid, Na-Chelle Brooks and Scarlet Rose Simmons.
Joanne enjoyed music, but was particularly fond of the Beatles, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. She enjoyed Elvis Presley movies and the movie “La Bamba,” about the life of Richie Valens. She enjoyed having family around and loved being around babies. She was always happy, even when she did not feel well. To her family, she was a blessing and an angel.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 28 from Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington. Pastor Downing Gregory officiated, and interment followed in Phillips Chapel Cemetery at Jimtown.
