Virginia Leigh (Tacy) Layman, 95, of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at her residence.
She was born June 9, 1918, in Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Chumley Alfred and Mary Louise (Simmons) Tacy.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Walter Layman.
Virginia was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Co. where she worked as a cook. She was a former member of the Penovalen Club and the Fairmont Women’s Club. She was an excellent cook and baker, and she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and traveling.
She is survived by her son, James Lee Layman and his wife, Linda, of Fairmont; four grandchildren, James Michael Layman of Louisiana, Steven K. Layman and his wife, Sara, of Alabama, Robert Delaney and his wife, Tabitha, of Florida, and David Layman; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah Layman, Sheldon Layman, Cody Delaney and Tiffany Delaney.
Also surviving are two sisters, Eunice Price and her husband, Howard, of Glassow and Mary Ellen Nine and her husband, Leo, of Cantonville, Md.; one brother, Vernon Tacy of Clarksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Glena M. Eckberg and Rella Tacy; and two brothers, Gail Tacy and Victor Tacy.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St. in Fairmont today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be in the funeral home Friday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow in Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County.
