Benjamin Brake

Mr. Benjamin Dee “Ben” Brake, 60, of Manassas, Va., left this life on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer.

Ben was born Jan. 29, 1954, in Elkins, the son of the late Ralph Brake and Opal Carr Brake.

He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Ralph Vincent Brake Jr.

Ben is survived by one sister, Sandra Godwin and husband, Joe, of Montrose; and three brothers, Daniel Brake and wife, Robin, of Bluemont, Va., Steven Brake and wife, Lou, of Weston and Timothy Brake and wife, Edie, of Elkins; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two uncles, Solomon Carr and Curtis Carr of Elkins. In addition to his family, Ben leaves behind many special friends in Manassas, including the Branscome and Harrah families.

Ben graduated from Elkins High School with the class of 1971 and attended Berea College in Berea, Ky.

For several years Ben worked as a store manager for KFC in Elkins and Buckhannon, and later as a store and district manager for Hardees in the Parkersburg and Charleston areas. For the last 18 years, Ben had worked for Branscome Paving Co. in Manassas as an estimator and contract manager. Ben was a special part of the Branscome Paving family.

There will be a reception to celebrate Ben’s life on Friday, March 14, from 2-4 p.m. at Branscome Paving Company, Manassas, Va. There will also be a memorial service in Elkins at a later date.
