Betty Joann Dawson Skidmore, 71, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Thursday morning, March 27, 2014, at her home in Glenmore. She had been in declining health.
She was born Monday, Oct. 12, 1942, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Charles Raymond and Dorothy Gladys Cave Dawson.
On March 22, 1958, at Mill Creek, she was married to Thomas Russell Skidmore, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Tommy Skidmore Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Snowshoe; three daughters, Evelyn Kay Brand and husband, John, of Rising Sun, Md., Terry Ann Flerx and husband, Robert, of Elkins and Annette Lynn McCall and husband, Larry, of Valley Head; one brother, Raymond A. Dawson of New Castle, Del.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were one son, Bradley Russell Skidmore; and one sister, Doris Fay Crawford.
She attended the schools of Valley Head, had worked for the Howard Johnson Hotel Corp. as director of housekeeping and was a member of Valley Head United Methodist Church. She was well known for her flower gardens, enjoyed birds, as well as collecting birds. She was a caring and loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Skidmore’s request for cremation was honored.
