James H. Vanpelt, 96, a resident of Elkins, passed away March 24, 2014, in Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
He was born June 1, 1917, at Huttonsville, a son of the late James and Phoeba Kisner Vanpelt.
He was married to Dorothy Elizabeth Vanpelt, who preceded him in death Jan. 5, 2006.
Surviving are two sons, one stepson and two daughters, including Martha Ann Kirkpatrick and husband, Pete, of Elkins. Also surviving are four grandchildren including Jerry Joe Ryder and Jessica Dawn Kirkpatrick; and one great grandson.
Mr. Vanpelt was a veteran of World War II having served with the United States Army.
He farmed all his life prior to his retirement.
Private burial was conducted in American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery near Cravensdale.
