John Poore

John Arthur Poore, 77, a resident of Gilman, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at his home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church in Elkins with Pastor Ralph Andrus and Dr. Ken Shiflet officiating. Interment will follow in Gilman Cemetery where presentation of the American flag will be made by members of H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion.

John Poore

John Arthur Poore, 77, a resident of Gilman, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1936 at Cloverport, Ky., a son of the late John W. Poore and Ruth E. Pate Poore.

On Nov. 22, 1962, he was married to Dorothy Flo Phares Poore, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Luke J. Poore and wife, Jennelle, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Samuel J. Zabajai and wife, Michelle, of Ocoee, Fla., and Richard J. Poore and wife, Kristina, of San Antonio, Texas; and two daughters, Karen J. Seel and husband, Charles, and Laurinda J. Cross and husband, Tim, all of Gilman. One brother, Richard C. Poore, of Hemet, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, Joshua, Charlie, Thorton, Ethan, Emily, Jessica, Thad, Zachary, Kate, Tina, Marcus, Johnathan, Kaylee, Caleb, Malayia, David and Hannah; and one great-grandchild, Malachi, also survive.

Also preceding him in death were one son, Daniel Joseph Poore; and one sister, Mary R. Estes.

Mr. Poore was a graduate of Cannelton High School, Bob Jones University of Greenville, S.C., and Faith Theological Seminary of Elkins Park, Pa. He also completed his master’s degree in special education from West Virginia University. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Turkey. He was a retired teacher having taught in the schools of Randolph County. He was a member of the Wood Technology Center Co-op and the Calvary Baptist Church in Elkins.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 3, at the Calvary Baptist Church on Ervin Lane in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Ralph Andrus and Dr. Ken Shiflet officiating. Interment will follow in Gilman Cemetery where presentation of the American flag will be made by members of H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American

Legion.
