Leonard Bernard Bergfeld, 74, the Frenchton community, French Creek, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his home, under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
He was born Jan. 13, 1940, in Pulaski County, Ill., a son of the late Bernard L. and Faymel I. Ervin Bergfeld.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Dever Bergfeld, whom he married Sept. 1, 1968; daughter, Linda F. Bergfeld of Plano, Ill.; two sons, Leonard Boyce Bergfeld and girlfriend, Tawney Becker, of Yorkville, Ill., and Richard Bernard Bergfeld and wife, Maria of Plano, Ill.; two granddaughters, Susan Luellen “Ellie” Bautista and boyfriend, AJ, and Lily Bautista; grandson, Rubenn Bautista and finance, Lorena Baltierrez; great-grandson, Andres Bautista; three sisters, JoAnn (Jerry) Nowak, Rochelle (Bob) Heller and Carol (Wayne) Wiewiora all of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and had served as commissioner in the Scouts and had been an assistant scout master in Sugar Grove, Ill., a member of the Frank B. Bartlett Post American Legion, the Upshur County Honor Guard and the Frenchton United Methodist Church and had served with the U.S. Air Force.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon. On Saturday, Mr. Bergfeld will be moved to Frenchton United Methodist Church for services beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kara Phillippi officiating. Burial will follow in Beechtown Cemetery, with the Upshur County Honor Guard providing military honors at the gravesite.
