Veldon Leslie “Joe” McDonald, 83, of Locust Avenue in Belington, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, in Mansfield Place, Philippi, following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 2, 1931, at Belington, a son of the late Cecil and Ethel Carrie (Weese) McDonald.
On Oct. 12, 1962, he married the former Ernestine Hope “Tina” Trusler, who preceded him in death Feb. 25, 2010.
Surviving are four daughters, Paula White and Rachelle White and companion, David Santee, all of Belington, Kim Mullenex and fiance, Christopher, of Wake Forest, N.C., and Pamela S. James and companion, Reggie, in Florida; seven grandchildren, Cieara Harper, Zachary and Isaiah White, Angel, little Donnie and James Mullenex and Dakota White; three great-grandchildren, Rylee Harper, Ricky Joe and Caitlyn Everson; one brother, Roy Lee McDonald of Junior; three sisters, Rose Marie Shaver of Philippi, Bonnie Sue Shaffer and Linda Lou Harris, both of Belington; and longtime friend, Jim Hovey.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Aimee Lynn Everson; by a son-in-law, Terry White; by five sisters, Elwanda Ash, Wilda Geraldine Stark, Evelyn Louise George, Anna Mae Mayle and Catherine Lucille McDonald; and by two brothers, Earsel and Leon McDonald.
Mr. McDonald retired as a lift operator at Bel-Bar Lumber Co. and had worked as a driller and shooter for Century Limestone. He attended Calvary Mission Church in Belington.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, March 3, from Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave. in Belington. Pastor Wayne Freeman and The Rev. Shirley Webster will officiate, and interment will follow in Stringtown
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, Monday.
Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
