Mr. Wayne Edward Colaw, 91, of Cherry Grove, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Grant Memorial Hospital in
He was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Monterey, Va., the son of the late George E. Colaw and Virgie B. Swecker Colaw.
Wayne was a graduate of Monterey High School and a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service from 1965 to 1988 and was co-owner of C&H Cash Store and C&H Livestock for more than 40 years.
On Oct. 13, 1943, he married Joy Anna Heavener Colaw, who preceded him in death June 29, 1956. On June 3, 1960, he married Norma Johnston Colaw, who preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2004.
Surviving are four daughters, Margaret Stinard of Canton, Ohio, Beverly and Rick Kile of Upper Tract, Sara and Chip Harper of Franklin and Laura and Rodney Menas of Boonesboro, Md.; three sons, Larry and Vickie Colaw of Cherry Grove, Jeffrey Kirby of Fayetteville, N.C., and Mark and Julie Colaw of Petersburg: two sisters, Dorothy Shepherd of Monterey, Va., and Mary Margaret Ruddick of Weyers Cave, Va.; two brothers, George “Goog” Colaw of Blue Grass, Va., and John Colaw of Mustoe, Va.; and 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Colaw and Cyrus Colaw; and two sisters, Virginia Curry and Rebecca Hull.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with the Rev. Paul O’Gorek officiating. Interment will be in Blue Grass Cemetery, Blue Grass, Va. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.
