William E. “Bill” Clark, 83, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday March 5, 2014, at his home.
He was born March 25, 1930, at Flat Top, Mercer County, the son of the late Willie E. and Sylvia Mae Griffith Clark.
On May 30, 1957, in Pax, he was married to Frances Dee Clark, who survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Carol Lee Holt and husband, Wayne, of Elkins. Two grandchildren, Nicholas Leombruno of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jordan Holt of Elkins; one brother, Jack C. Clark of Cleveland, Tenn.; and four nephews and their families, all of Cleveland, Tenn., also survive.
Also preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were one daughter, Lisa Lane Clark; and sister-in-law, Midge Clark.
Bill graduated from Shady Springs High School and attended Concord College. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and had taught for one year at Clear Fork High School and was also a coach. In 1965, he and his family moved to Elkins where he worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 26 years as a revenue agent in both the Charleston and Elkins offices. He retired in 1985 from the IRS and in 1986, he opened Clarks Tax Service. He was a member of the West Virginia Public Accountants and was an enrolled agent with the United States Treasury. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1135 where he was a past treasurer and was honored twice as “Elk of the Year.” He was an avid golfer and member of the Elks Golf Course, the board of directors of the Elkins Mountain School and just completed his term as president of the Randolph County Senior Center. He was an avid fund raiser for West Virginia University for several years and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins. At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Elkins. Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley and Rev. Dallas Forren will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, WV 26241, Randolph County Senior Center, 5th & Railroad Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 or Elkins Area YMCA, 400 Davis Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Clark.
