Alan ‘Corky’ Fisher

Alan Lee “Corky” Fisher, 70, a resident of Elkins, departed this life early Easter morning, Sunday, April 20, 2014, in Jennersville Regional Hospital at West Grove, Pa. He had been undergoing treatments for cancer, although his death was unexpected.

He was born Sunday, June 20, 1943, at Penns Grove, N.J., a son of the late John Moore Fisher and Mary Louise Kelley “Jerry” Fisher, who survives at Bearhunter Mountain, Elkins.

Also surviving are one brother, William Kelley Fisher of Montrose; one sister, Terri Hunsicker of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; 15 nieces and nephews; and his adored great-niece and great-nephew, Samantha and Harrison Murray of Greenville, N.C.

Preceding him in death, besides his father, were two sisters, Judith Anne Fisher-Sharp and Cynthia F. Scott.

He grew up in Chadds Ford, Pa., and attended schools through graduation at Unionville High School, where he played sports and participated in drama clubs. He joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict and later attended Davis & Elkins College in the Veterans Upward Bound

Program.

He made friends easily and loved “The WV Gang.” He could easily have been called the “unofficial” mayor of Elkins. He was a “colorful” character who has departed the local scene.

Corky’s request for cremation was honored. A celebration of life will be conducted Friday, June 20, at a location yet to be

determined.
