Amal Zickefoose

Mr. Amal Q. Zickefoose, 75, of Buckhannon, passed away at home Sunday, April 6, 2014, surrounded by his family and his cats.

He was born April 19, 1938, in Cubana, a son of the late Sampson Law and Virgie Sloan Zickefoose.

Also preceding him in death were brothers, Joseph, Jerry “Dick,” Rex; sister, Zita Lee; and an infant brother, Hayward.

He was married on April 23, 1967, to Shirley Hissam Zickefoose, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sheila and Tanya of Buckhannon; two brothers, David (Lois) of Claysville Pa., and Arthur (Kyoko) of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Donna (Alan) Boone of Berea, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Barbara Zickefoose of Elkins and Billie Zickefoose of Vermillion, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Amal served in the United States Navy as a fire technician on the USS Cotton, where he earned an honorable discharge. He was proud that his father and all six brothers served in the Armed Forces. After working as a lab technician for Corhart Refractories, he worked the majority of his career as an insurance agent for Equitable Life Insurance, later known as American General. He was a long-time volunteer for the March of Dimes. Amal loved hunting and was well-respected for his gun stock checkering and carving. He also enjoyed reloading shells. When not with his girls, he most loved spending time with his brothers and nephews at the cabin in Queens. He was a Methodist by faith.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Darrel Gooden officiating. Burial will follow in Lanhamn Cemetery at Queens with the Upshur County Honor Guard conducting military honors at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Buckhannon Academy Elementary School PTO Playground Fund, 16 College Ave., Buckhannon, WV. Condolences may be expressed to the family at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel of Buckhannon, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
