Esther Zorger, 98, a resident of Valentine’s Personal Care Home passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014.
She was born in Lodz, Poland, on Feb. 1, 1916. After coming to the United States she resided in Brooklyn, New York.
She is survived by two sons, Mark Zorger of Queens, N.Y., and Dr. Hal Zorger of Elkins. Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Janice; and three grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel and Michael; and one brother, Jacob Cykiert of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Zorger; and her sister, Gutta Greenspan. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Herschel and Sarah Cykiert; baby nephew, Israel Greenspan; and scores of relatives and friends who were victims of the Nazis and died in the Holocaust.
After settling in America, Esther helped ensure that any surviving family members separated throughout Eastern Europe could come to the United States. She sponsored their immigration to this country during the 1950s.
Her funeral and interment took place April 6 on Long Island, N.Y.
