Michael Duane Coen, 73, a resident of Elkins, departed this life early Saturday morning, March 29, 2014, in Barbour County Good Samaritan Center at Belington.
He was born Monday, Sept. 2, 1940, at Anderson, Ind., a son of the late Jennings Darold and Eunice Donna Tumulty Coen.
On June 20, 1987, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at Beverly, he was married to the former Partricia Ann Broschart, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Jennings Michael Coen and wife, Judy, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; four stepdaughters, Susie Boatwright and husband, Roger, Gerri Jones and Lloyd Hassell, Julie Broschart and Patricia Dawn Chewning and husband, Kevin, of Coalton; two brothers, Gary N. Coen and wife, Marcia, of Parker, Colo., and Brent D. Coen and wife, Suzette, of Wimberly, Texas; one sister, Pamela Hardin and husband Tom, of Taylorsville, Ky.; five grandsons, Christopher and Tanner Boatwright, Dustin and Garrett Chewning and Casey Jones; and one granddaughter, Hemmingway Lauren Hassell.
Preceding him in death was one son, Barton Carroll Coen.
He was a graduate of Anderson High School in Anderson, Ind., and served in the United States Navy for 22 years until retiring in 1980. He then moved to Elkins and worked as an electrician and eventually a supervisor for Columbia Gas Transmission, retiring in 2000 with 19 years of
He was a member of the H.W. Daniel’s Post 29 American Legion, where he had many friends and was known as “Mikie the Candy Man.” He enjoyed NASCAR, West Virginia and all his many friends. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband and grandfather. “Pap” will be sadly missed by all.
Mr. Coen’s request for cremation was honored.
