Shirley Sandy

Shirley Ann Sandy, 73, of Moatsville, passed away April 20, 2014 from an extended illness. She was surrounded by many of her loved ones at the home of her sister, Beulah Wachter, in Frederick, Md.

Shirley was born Nov. 27, 1940, a daughter of the late Robertus and Nora (Moore) Boner of Moatsville.

In 1958, she married the late Charles “Wayne” Sandy.

After marrying and the birth of two daughters, Shirley and Wayne relocated to Frederick, Md., in 1960; and made it their home for 23 years. Shirley was a devoted wife for 56 years. She became the caretaker of her eldest daughter after an illness and became a “mom” all over again when she raised her grandchildren later in life.

Shirley rejoined her five sisters, Mary Jane Boner, Evelyn Sherril Boner, Geraldine “Gerry” Boner, Eva Price and Beatrice “Tootsie” Ritter, and brother, Johnny, who preceded her in death. A joyful reunion awaits with daughters, Tammie (Sandy) Bowers and Kimmie (Sandy) McDaniel, who also preceded her in death.

To cherish her loving memory, Shirley leaves behind six surviving children, Pammie Moore, Patrick and wife, Linda, all of Frederick, Md., Susan Griffith and husband, Bryon, Christopher and wife, Tammy, James and wife, Carolyn, and Joseph, all of Barbour County; and one sister, Beulah Wachter of Frederick, Md. A grandmother for 37 years, Shirley has 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.

Shirley had an affinity for collecting interesting “craft” that she passed on to many. Her soft spot was always for cows. Shirley will be remembered and missed for her quick jokes and fiery way of living. She never stopped having fun. She always had a story of her childhood on the family farm, “back home,” as all have come to lovingly call, Moatsville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 S. Main St. in Philippi. The Rev.
