Karen S. Snyder

Mrs. Karen Sue (Pharis) Snyder, 65, a resident of Brown Avenue in Belington, departed this life Tuesday morning, May 20, 2014, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a period of declining health.

She was born July 26, 1948, at Elkins, a daughter of the late James William “Bill” and Janis Thema (Wiseman) Pharis.

On March 8, 1969, she was united in marriage to Herbert L. Snyder, who preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1998.

She is survived by two daughters, Patti Bulatko and husband, Mike, of Winchester, Va., and Teresa Snyder of Belington; two grandchildren, Kendra and Miranda Bulatko of Winchester, Va.; two brothers, James W. “Butch” Pharis Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Junior and Michael A. Pharis and wife, Mary, of Junior, and three sisters, Linda C. Cox and husband, Gene, of Good Hope, Janet L. Baisi and husband, Rick, of Kenova and Gloria J. Pudder and husband, Carl, of Junior.

Mrs. Snyder graduated from Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1966, and she worked at various retail stores, restaurants and was last employed at The Barbour County Good Samaritan Society as a cook. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Karen was an avid quilter and was a member of the West Virginia Quilters Guild, Log Cabin Quilters Guild of Elkins, National Quilting Association Inc., American Quilters Association and the Philippi Congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 23, and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Minister Richard Dickson officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery near Junior.
