William D. “Bill” Rexroad, 81, passed away May 6, 2014, in Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita, Kan.
He was born in Winfield, Kan., Feb. 11, 1933, the son of Max and Vivian Rexroad.
He married Virginia Guild, at Winfield, Kan., Feb. 22, 1953.
Rexroad was a frequent visitor to the Pendleton County/Highland County area as he did research for the books he wrote. He often talked about the many good friends he made there and his fondness for the beauty of the mountains and streams. His books included family histories of the Rexrodes, “The Poor Farms of Pendleton County,” “The Mill at New Hampden,” “The Black People of Pendleton County,” “West Virginia, A History,” and others.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 12, at Elliott Chapel with the Rev. Michael McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park. The casket will remain closed. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and the family will receive friends from 2-4 Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
