Alston Spessert

Mr. Alston Jay Spessert, 72, of Philippi, departed this life Friday morning in Mon General Hospital at Morgantown.

He was born May 16, 1942, at Tucker County, a son of the late Eddie Lee and Opal Violet Poling Spessert.

On Dec. 28, 1981, he was united in marriage to the former Clarice Lee McCauley, who survives at their home in Philippi.

Alston is also survived by two stepsons, Charles Butch Corley Jr. of Clarksburg and James Ray Corley and wife, Brenda, of Missouri; one brother, Richard Paul Spessert and wife, Pearl, of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Melody Valentina Corley and Jordon Douglas Corley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Willard A. Spessert; one sister Mary Jane Howell; one half-brother, Versal Boyles; and a stepson Allen lee Corley.

Mr. Spessert was a former Pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy near Gilman, was a former town cop in Belington, a former drywall tradesman and previously worked in Ohio as a factory worker. Mr. Spessert retired from the Department of Natural Resources, being employed as caretaker and overseer of the Teter Creek Lake.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street, Belington, WV, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. At 8 p.m., from the funeral home chapel, there will be a eulogy delivered by Pastor Steven Pyles. At the request of the deceased, Mr. Spessert will be cremated. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Talbott Funeral Home P.O. Box 879 Belington, WV. 26250 to help with final expenses.
