Mary F. Hite

Mary Frances Hamrick Hite, 87, lived a long life with many chapters. The final page was turned on June 2, 2014.

She was born Nov. 24, 1926 to Wesley Gay and Hester Wamsley Hamrick.

She was raised in southern Randolph County and graduated from Tygart Valley High School in 1944. During World War II, she worked in Akron as an inspector at one of the airplane factories and then returned to work as a telephone operator in Elkins. After her marriage to Shirley P. Hite in 1946, they had several businesses together including a General Store in Valley Head.

They had three children, Steven, Christopher and Cynthia, and lived in Huttonsville, Valley Bend and Valley Head while raising them. She was active in the PTA, West Virginia Extension Homemakers Club and community improvement projects in Valley Head.

After 1975, they moved to Fairmont. Mary Frances attended Fairmont State, held a real estate license and owned the children’s store, The Calico Cat. She loved music of all varieties, singing and dancing to it all. She loved to read and was gifted in her interior decorating. She divorced in 1987 but remained in Fairmont until the disease, Alzheimers, required assisted living, first at Maplewood in Bridgeport and then St. Joseph’s Hospital NCF in Buckhannon.

Mary Frances is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-laws, Steven and Linda Hite and Christopher and Patsy Hite, all of Buckhannon. Her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Hite and Robert Beverly also survive at Morgantown. Four grandchildren and their spouses survive her, Anissa and John Davis of Buckhannon, Michael and Desi Hite of Normandy Park, Wash., Tracy and Billy Hurst of Buckhannon and Courtney Hite and Sandeep Vennam of Gastonia, N.C. Additionally, she is survived by nine great-grandchildren, Cara, Cassie, Jordan and Kyndal Davis, Alex and Flori Hite, Abigail and Baylee Hurst and Leela Vennam; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Eli Withers. Bryson, a great-great-grandson, also survives her. Her surviving brothers and sisters-in-law include Leonard and Toni Hamrick of Valparaiso, Ind., Don and Peg Hamrick of Fairmont and Clifford and Eleanor Hamrick of Valley Bend.

Her parents and one brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and JoAnn Hamrick, preceded her in death.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Maplewood and the wonderful, skilled caring staff at St Joseph’s Hospital NCF that made her life longer and content.
