Maurice Law Allman, 92, a resident of Mary’s Lane, Philippi, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, in Mansfield Place of Broaddus Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Berlin, an area near Jane Lew, a son of the late John I. and Reta B. (Law) Allman.
He was united in marriage on Sept. 3, 1950, to Bertha Lee (Wood) Allman who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela R. (Allman) Corathers and the late Robert H. Corathers of Mineral Wells and Elaine C. (Allman) Coulter and husband Commodore “Junior” Coulter III of Philippi; two sisters, Rebecca Gamble of Amherst, N.Y., and Barbara Condo of Warren, Ohio; one brother, Ronald Allman and wife, Betty, of Massillon, Ohio; four grandchildren, Julie R. (Smith) Warsinskey and husband, J. Justin, of Rutland, Vt., Grayson H. Smith and Heather C. Dawson of Nutter Fort, Laura E. Corathers of Clarksburg and Jennifer S. Corathers of Mineral Wells; many nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Brenda Price
Maurice was preceded in death by two sisters, Elenore Wiseman and Miriam Cummings.
He retired with 33 years service as an RC&D coordinator for the Conservation District, having served in Doddridge, Gilmer, Lewis and Barbour counties. He served in the US Army from 1942- 1946 during WWII.
Maurice volunteered at the Philippi Heart and Hand, Alleghany Mountain Wool Co-op, Hackers Creek Pioneers’ Descendants, Stonewall Jackson Dam State Park Foundation, Corridor H Committee, Barbour County Industrial Authority, University Extension Office, Barbour County Fairgrounds/Park, and Tygart Valley Conservation Supervisors.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 44, Bigelow Lodge 52 AF & AM and was very active in the Crim United Methodist Church.
Maurice was a 1941 graduate of Jane Lew High School and was a 1950 graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelors of Science of Agriculture.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi on from 5 to 8 p.m. today and on Tuesday, June 10, Maurice will be moved to the Crim United Methodist Church to lie in state from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the service hour with Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery located on Hackers Creek Road, Jane Lew with military honors being accorded. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Crim United Methodist Church 200 Pike St. Philippi or Hackers Creek Pioneers’ Descendants Library 45 Abbotts Run Rd. Horner, WV 26372.
