Viola Ellen Higgins, 83, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday morning, June 3, 2014, at her home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today from Tomblyn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. A.H. Belt officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.

Viola E. Higgins

Viola Ellen Higgins, 83, a resident of Elkins, passed away Tuesday morning, June 3, 2014, at her home.

She was born Aug. 19, 1930, at Elkins, a daughter of the late John D. Chenoweth and the late Grace Wees Stalnaker.

On Nov. 29, 1947, in Elkins, she was married to Ottis Higgins, who preceded her in death April 30, 1984.

Surviving are four daughters, Grace Ellen Phillips of Buckhannon, Sylvia Jean Metheny of Elkins, Cynthia Diane Rohrbough of Bridgewater, Va., and Teresa Renee Kamp of Kerens. Also surviving are two brothers, Donald Chenoweth of Kerens and Ronald Chenoweth of Chenoweth Creek; one sister, Brenda West of Helenwood, Tenn.; two half brothers, Gary David Chenoweth of Buckhannon and Bobbie Allen Chenoweth of Elkins; and two half sisters, Estelle Biller of Georgetown Road and Linda White of Ohio. Four grandchildren, Tanesta Lance and Jeanetta Phillips of Buckhannon, Jeremy Metheny, of Elkins and Christina Henderlite of Bridgewater, Va.; and five great-grandchildren, Jericka Phillips, Kyran Lance and Hadyn Simmons, all of Buckhannon, Gracie Metheny of Elkins and Kolbi Henderlite of Bridgewater, Va., also survive.

Also preceding her in death were one sister, Ida Ruth Swecker; and one half brother, John Robert Chenoweth.

Mrs. Higgins was employed for many years at the G.C. Murphy Co. snack bar and then at Super 8 Motel prior to her retirement. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She loved flowers, watching birds, gardening and had a great love for the Lord. She was Full Gospel by faith.
