Virgil D. Sutton, 88, of Route 20 South Road, French Creek, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born on March 5, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Harley Lee and Flossie Keatley Sutton.
He is survived by his former wife, Cletha Ann Crites Sutton, and was preceded in death in September 1979 by his second wife, Naomi Alderman Sutton.
He is survived by three sons, Francis A. Sutton and wife, Johnna, of Canton, Ohio, Scott Sutton of French Creek and Shawn Pugh and wife, Cindy, of French Creek; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Johnny Loudin; several other nieces and nephews; and his beloved Brittany Spaniel, Sadie.
In addition to his parents and second wife, he was also preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters; and special companion, Lela Pugh.
Mr. Sutton was a retired coal miner and avid farmer and cattleman.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, from the funeral chapel with Pastor J. Edward McDaniels officiating.
Interment will follow in the French Creek Memorial Gardens.
