Mrs. Alma Elizabeth (Zirkle) Cole, 92, a resident of Rt. 92, Belington, departed this life Tuesday Aug. 5, 2014, in the Hospice Care Inpatient Facility at Elkins following a short illness.
She was born Dec. 10, 1921, at Upshur County, a daughter of the late William Oakey and Mabel Helena (Poling) Zirkle. She was united in marriage March 4, 1943, to Edwin L. “Pete” Cole, who preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1990.
She is survived by two daughters, H. Jean Currence and husband, Jimmy, of Elkins, Pamela K. Shrader and husband, Terry, of Petersburg; and one foster son William “Billy” Watts of Missouri; four grandchildren, Dr. David J. Currence of Elkins, Donna Canfield and husband, Lee, of Beverly, Christopher B. Shrader and wife, Dee Dee, of Belington and Michelle Williams and husband, Corey, of Spotsylvania, Va.; two step great-grandchildren, Luke A. Evans, U.S. Navy, and Louise K. Stickel and husband, Stan, both U.S. Navy; and one sister, Elsie B. Fitzwater and husband, Dick, of Kent, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Betty Lee Cole; one sister, Gladys Nutter; and one Brother Wilbert Zirkle.
Mrs. Cole graduated from Belington High School with the class of 1941, attended the Clarksburg Business School and was a homemaker and farm wife. Alma loved to sew crewel pictures and assemble puzzles. She was a member of the Westside United Methodist Church at Belington.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 – 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, and again on Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Judy Flynn officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Alma Elizabeth (Zirkle) Cole.
