Bernice Morgan

Bernice R. Morgan, age 93, of the Czar Community, Helvetia, graduated this temporary world to ascend to the waiting hands of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Aug. 24, 2014. She was staying with her daughter on the Alexander Road at the time.

She was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Czar, to the late Ruben and Minnie Folks Smith.

She was the final survivor of her sibling family of Ruth Snyder, Glen Smith, Edwin Smith, Paul Smith and Elizabeth “Betty” DePoy.

Bernice was united in marriage July 27, 1940 to James P. Morgan Sr., who preceded her in death April 9, 1996.

Bernice is survived by all nine of her children, Kenneth Morgan of Hinkle Ridge Road, French Creek, Helen (Linden) Hinkle of Cleveland, Ohio, Margaret (Charles) McCue of Hemlock, James P. Morgan Jr. of Czar, Esthelene Cagle of Gastonia, N.C., Vernon (Donna) Morgan of Sugar Grove Road, Helvetia, Philip Morgan of Czar, Carol (Delmar) Cutright of Alexander Road, French Creek and Morgan D. (Suzan) Morgan of Buckhannon; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren; her beloved sister-in-law, the Rev. Elizabeth Smith Wycoff of Fairmont; two cherished former daughters-in-law, Audamaree of the Alexander Community and Susanna of Alaska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. A note of appreciation goes out to a sweet and faithful caregiver, Millie Quick.

She attended the Randolph County schools from age 4 in a one-room school in Czar and graduated from Pickens High School in 1937. She certainly needed her education in bringing up nine children. She joined the Pine Grove United Methodist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until being called home. She enjoyed Christian work, holding many positions, especially being a song leader and adult Sunday school teacher. After ill health, she continued to read her Bible, study her Sunday school lesson and sing her joyous Christian songs. Bernice liked gardening, flowers, sending cards and especially sending to and from her

grandchildren.

The family would like to thank our sister, Carol, and her family for the Christian care of mother during her waning days. Also a great appreciation to our brother, Philip, his wonderful care at a time that allowed mother to remain in her home.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, with viewing starting one hour before. The Rev. Clifford Schell and her son, James P. Morgan Jr., will officiate, and burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to your local church or Christian organization or to your favorite charity. For cards of sympathy, please mail to James P. Morgan Jr., HC 76 Box 56, Helvetia, WV 26224. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.tomblyn.com. The Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel of Buckhannon is in charge of the arrangements.
