Dawn Rae Head

Dawn Rae Head, 86, loving wife and mother, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Heartland of Kettering Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Dayton, Ohio. Dawn was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank Dixon and Tina (Holloway) Dixon.

On July 8, 1950, she married Robert E. Head in Dayton, Ohio, who preceded her in death in 1975. Also preceding her in death was one daughter, Shelley Head, in 2013.

Surviving members of Dawn’s family include one sister, Mrs. Fleeta Tekamp and husband, Stan, of Dayton, Ohio; three sons, Shawn Head of Elkins, Kevin Head and Jesse Head of Missoula, Mont.; and one daughter, Tara (Head) Thornton and husband, Ray, of Oneco, Conn. Also, four grandchildren, Luke Head and wife, Carolyn, Katy Head, Megan Thornton and Sarah Thornton; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Davis and Olivia Hewko survive.

Dawn was a model from the mid-1940s to about 1952 and was runner-up for the Tournament of Roses Rose Bowl Queen in 1947. Dawn was a loving homemaker, primarily in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., where she and hisband, Robert, raised their family.

At the request of Dawn, her wishes were to be cremated. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. The Tobias Funeral Home of Dayton, Ohio, is in charge of funeral arrangements for Dawn Rae Head.
