Larry A. Jones, 68, of Buckhannon, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at his home. He was born Oct. 12, 1945, in Philippi, a son of Mabel Cecelia Harper Jones of Pipestem, and the late Loring Charles Jones. He also is preceded in death by a brother, Charles David Jones and his father-in-law, Walter J. Fridley.
Larry is survived by his mother; his wife, Terri L. Fridley Jones, whom he married on Feb. 23, 1981; son, Matthew J. Jones of Naples, Fla.; brother, David L. Jones and wife, Becky, of Pipestem; nephew, Charles C. Jones of Princeton; mother-in-law, Judy Hull Fridley of Lake Mary, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donna Branch of Tampa, Fla.; Janice Smith of Lake Mary; Karen Tate of Lake Mary; Barbara Strniste of Grandville, Mass.; Jerry Fridley of Maitland, Fla.; and Gayle Fridley of Richmond, Va.
Larry retired on Nov. 1, 2010, after 33 years with the Division of Natural Resources. He had worked at Kumbrabow State Forrest, Canaan Valley Resort, Greenbrier State Forrest, Audra State Park and Walter Smith State Park. Larry was in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Bigelow in Key West, Fla. He was a Baptist by faith and had attended Beckley College. Larry loved his family and enjoyed fly fishing and was a member of Trout Unlimited.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon, where services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. The Upshur County Honor Guard will provide Military Funeral Honors.
