Billy J. Hicks

Billy J. Hicks, 90, a resident of Dailey, passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at Colonial Place in Elkins.

He was born March 11, 1926, in Pickens, a son of the late Thomas I. and Helen Sturrock Hicks.

On Jan. 14, 1947, in Garden City, Michigan, he married Kathryn N. “Kay” Arnold Hicks who preceded him in death Dec. 29, 2006.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews as well as many friends who loved him dearly. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one brother Jimmy Hicks.

Mr. Hicks was a Sergeant in the United States Army serving his country during World War II. He was a retired Roadway Truck Driver and enjoyed hunting, camping, exploring West Virginia on Sunday drives with his wife and watching football and other sports.

He was a member of Randolph Lodge No. 55 AF & AM of Beverly; Beverly Chapter No. 23 Royal Arch Masons; Pilgrim Commandery No. 21 of Elkins; Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies, Charleston, and Beni Kedem Shrine of Charleston.

He was a Presbyterian by faith.  Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Leon Hevener officiating.  Presentation of the American Flag will then be made by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program.  Interment will follow in the Pickens Cemetery where Beverly Masonic Lodge No. 55 will conduct Masonic Graveside Rites.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th St., Erie, PA. 16505 or Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, WV 26250 in memory of Mr. Hicks.
