Frederick Perry Westfall

Frederick Perry Westfall

Frederick Perry Westfall, 72, of Buckhannon, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

He was born Dec. 29, 1943, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Don Westfall and Lorna Bodkin Westfall-Mellow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Irving Mellow; and former wife, Darleen C. Westfall.

He is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Hollen and husband, Robert, of Ellamore; three granddaughters, Mandy, Abby and Tessa Hollen, all of Ellamore; three sisters, Nancy Garcia of New Jersey, Serena Loos and Stephanie Mellow, both of Florida; and three brothers, Eric, Charles and Andrew Mellow, all of Florida.

Mr. Westfall served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in Fort Sill, Okla. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Elks 1736 and enjoyed playing poker. He was known to anyone who would listen as “The Great Grampus Giggus of all Crab Bottom and surrounding territory. Ruler of all, Master of all he surveys,” but most called him Freddie. His trademark hand clap was known far and wide. Freddie was a person with a great sense of humor and a wit that left people laughing. He was the kind of friend you were lucky to have, a true friend.  Freddie loved with his entire soul, and once he loved, he loved forever. He was the type of person if you met him once, you would remember him and it was like you knew him your whole life. Freddie was a knowledgeable man who loved to teach others. He would give people a chance when no one else would, even with the knowledge that it may not turn out well. Freddie was willing to take the chance. His last advice to his daughter was, “Have fun and be a good human.” He listened to his advice and was a good human.

Friends will be received today from 5-8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
