Robert Donald ‘Bob’ Roy

Robert Donald “Bob” Roy, age 70 years, a resident of Beverly and Florence, South Carolina, departed this life Thursday evening Dec. 8, 2016, at Florence, South Carolina. He had been in declining health for the past three weeks.

He was born Tuesday, Oct. 1, 1946, at Chicoppe, Massachusetts, a son of the late Aime Joseph Arthur Wifred Roy and Doris Helen Robert Roy. On June 22, 1985, at Parsons, he was married to the former Rada Mae Fox, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, James Roy and wife Misty of Sanford, North Carolina, and Rob Roy and wife Tanya of Lillington, North Carolina; one stepson, Richard Allen Dumire of Florida; two step-daughters, Ella Mae Dumire of New Castle, Delaware, Janet Lee Canfield and husband, David, of Elkins; one sister, Jean Ledoux of Springfield, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Aubrey, Kayle, and Carolina; seven step-grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren; and a dear friend, Charlie Carr of Brooksville, Florida.

He attended the Chicopee Vocational School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army with the First Calvary. He had worked as a truck driver for 34 years, had worked as a federal police officer at Dalgreen, Virginia, and the Florida Correctional Institute. He was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Terry Cannon will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legions Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, where full military honors will be accorded by members of the West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H. W.
