Loretta Belle Chenoweth Coontz, born Nov. 26, 1923, departed this life Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2017, in Colonial Place, Elkins, following an extended illness.

She was twice married, first to the late Cuthbert Keats Hunt; and then to Isaac “Sonny” Coontz, who preceded her in death Feb. 20, 1995.

Surviving are three sons, Keats Eldon Hunt and wife, Marianne, of Peoria, Ill., Isaac “Greg” Coontz, and wife, Linda, of Villanow, Ga., and Opha Robert “Bob” Coontz and wife, Debbie, of Philippi; four grandchildren, Michele (Mike) DeLong, Isaac Gregory (Terra) Coontz II, Carissa (Steve) Payne and Rebekah (Matt) Koch; and eight great-grandchildren. One grandson preceded her in death. She is also survived by one sister, Jean Holbert of Belington.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Opha and Bessie Marie (Kittle) Chenoweth; by two sisters, Martha Mason and Louise Shaffer; and by one brother, Carl “Bud” Chenoweth.

Over the years, she was employed by various businesses in Philippi; Superior Chevrolet, Monongahela Power, Modern Drugs, attorneys and Barbour County government offices. She retired in 1986 from the Barbour County Board of Education as assistant finance director. She also taught evening classes in bookkeeping at the Barbour County Vocational Technical Center.

She was an active Christian member of Valley Bend Baptist Church, having taught Sunday School classes and serving as youth director in earlier years. She was a member of Barbour Country Club, Ladies Golf Association and Barbour County Association of Retired School Employees.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, from Valley Bend Baptist Church. The Rev. Joseph Bowen will officiate, and interment will follow in Valley Bend Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at  Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel, 95 S. Crim Ave. in Belington and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Valley Bend Baptist Church.
