Lula Mae Kerns, 103, a resident of Elkins, where she made her home with her daughter, Dorothy Montoney, departed this life late Sunday evening, Feb. 19, 2017, in Davis Medical Center at Elkins.

She was born Friday, Oct. 10, 1913, at home, in Sully, one of 13 children of the late Walter Grey and Lottie Mae Hedrick Kerns.

She had never married.

Surviving are one son, Hobert Hallen Kerns Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Cabins; one daughter, Dorothy Marlene Montoney of Elkins; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by all her brothers and sisters.

She attended the schools of Sully and was a graduate of Beverly High School. She had worked as a grade school teacher at Sully, as a cook at the Alpines at Alpena and as a cook at Davis Memorial Hospital, now the Davis Medical Center at Elkins. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, working on her puzzle books and especially enjoyed sitting on her porch swing.

Miss Kerns’ request for cremation was honored, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
