Pastor Allen Dale Crosten, 75, a resident of Parsons, went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2017, at his home. Death was attributed to complications of the flu.

He was born Thursday, Nov. 27, 1941, at Thomas, a son of the late Jack D. and Janice Carr Crosten.

On Jan. 2, 1963, at Winchester, Va., he was married to the former Carol Louise Jones, who survives. They had celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two sons, Mark Dale Crosten of Parsons and Gregory Allen Crosten and wife, Kellie, of Holly Meadows; one brother, Jack F. Crosten and wife, Darlena, of Bretz; one sister, Diane K. Schrecongost of Manassas, Va.; four grandchildren, Justin Crosten of Morgantown, Alyssa Parsons and husband, Daniel, of Grafton, Ethan Crosten of Parsons and Emily Crosten of Parsons; and several nieces and nephew.

He attended Thomas Grade School and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1959. He was a mechanic, working for his father at Crosten’s Sales and Service and was a former service manager for Motor City Datsun of Elkins. He had a calling in the ministry and pastored at the First Baptist Church in Parsons from 1986 until his retirement in 2015.

He coached little league football, basketball and baseball. He had a great love for the Lord, his family, his church family and friends and loved spending time on his front porch reminiscing. He enjoyed working with the youth, fishing the riverbanks, feeding the birds and attending his grand children’s sport activities. He had a great love for the youth, ministering through Bible school, church camp, church gym and several other activities. While pastor at the First Baptist Church, he was instrumental in the construction of a new church facility and a gymnasium for the community youth. Al will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, tremendous compassion and great love for the Lord and spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church at Parsons today from 5-8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the church Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Gregory Smith will officiate, and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
