Samuel Andrew Moore

Samuel Andrew Moore, 86, of Nestorville community, Philippi, died Sunday morning, March 26, 2017, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. He had been in declining health, but his death was unexpected.

He was born Feb. 21, 1931, at Nestorville, the youngest son of the late Steward M. And Delphia (Stalnaker) Moore.

On June 3, 1950, he married the former Emma Jean Strawderman, who survives at their home at Nestorville.

Also surviving are one daughter, Sandra Gribble and husband, Randy, of Philippi; one son, Larry Moore and wife, Darlene, of Philippi; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Corissa and companion, Gary Lewis, Scott and companion, Clorissa Johnson, Joey and wife, Kim, and Andrew Tasker; and eight great-grandchildren, John, Nick, Austin, Evan, Aleah, Bradyn, Elizabeth and Cameron.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Darlene Weaver; by a son-in-law, Paul Weaver; by a granddaughter, Ashley (Moore) Tasker; by one sister, Vonda Kines; and by three brothers, Weldon, Edsel and Elmer Moore.

Mr. Moore started driving trucks, transporting raw milk from the Broaddus Farm dairy to the Glenn Dairy processing plant in Philippi. He then spent 26 years carrying mail between area post offices as well as delivering mail on the Kasson Star Route rural mail route, following which he worked 15-plus years driving and delivering for Vessechia Produce.

He was a 1949 graduate of Kasson High School. He was a member of Nestorville United Methodist Church and a former member of Kasson Ruritan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to listen to gospel, bluegrass and country music. He loved to entertain everyone he met with his stories and jokes.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, from Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 966 S. Main St. in Philippi. The Rev. Gina Stewart and the Rev. James E. Johnson will officiate, and interment will follow in Marsh Cemetery at Tacy.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, Wednesday.
