The Rev. S.L. Green, 93, of Buckhannon, died May 23, 2017, in United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.

He was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Webster County, a son of the late Elza M. and Pruda P. Carpenter Green.

On May 5, 1945, he married Augustine I. Oldaker, who preceded him in death Feb. 2, 2003.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmie Lee Green; three sisters, Reeda M. Mosley, Mona B. Skidmore and Linda L. Green; and two brothers, James L. and Paul M. Green.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Imogene Barger Green of Buckhannon; his daughter-in-law, Cheri Green of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Clint Green and wife, Aimee, of Georgia, and Jon Green and wife, Holly, of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Mindi McGrew and husband, Jason, of Hurricane and Shelli Lantz and husband, Eric, of Buckhannon; seven great-grandsons, Jack, Mitch and Rhett McGrew, all of Hurricane, Jimmie and Julian Green and Mason and Clayton Lantz, all of Buckhannon; four great-granddaughters, Madison, Delaney and Cheridyn Green, all of Georgia, and Ava Lantz of Buckhannon; two sisters, Helen L. Dixon of Loveland, Colorado, and Patty Brake and husband, John, of Punta Gorda, Florida; and one brother, Daniel Green and wife, Ricki, of Buckhannon.

Before his time in ministry, Mr. Green was a coal miner and a lumberman. He retired from Stonewood United Methodist Church but still remained active in ministry for many years after.

Friends will be received Sunday, May 28, from noon to 3 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Estes officiating. Burial will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
