Elwanda Ruth McCartney Collett Ford

Mrs. Elwanda Ruth McCartney Collett Ford, 80, a resident of The Barbour County Good Samaritan Society at Belington, and formerly a resident of Belington and Fairmont, departed this life Friday, June 23, 2017, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was following a period of extended illness.

She was born Oct. 13, 1936, at Clemtown in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Paul E. and Ruth Weaver McCartney.

She was twice married, first to Lynn Collett, who preceded her in death in 1990, and married second to Thomas J. Ford, who preceded her in death in 2009.

She is survived by one brother, Paul Sheldon McCartney and wife, Karen, of Belington; two sisters Donna Carolyn Haller of Gainesville, Ga. and Darla Cherylene Ennis and husband, Raymond, of Cartersville, Ga.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Elwanda was a graduate of the Belington High School with the class of 1954. She was first employed as an operator by C&P Telephone, which later became AT&T from which she retired with 33 years of service. Upon her retirement she then worked as a nurse’s aid at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Society in Belington.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 34 of Fairmont and she was a Presbyterian by faith. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, from 5-9 p.m. Philippi Chapter No. 41 OES will conduct ritualistic services at 7 p.m. on Tuesday from the funeral home chapel. Friends will be received again on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, from 8-11 a.m. the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Judy Flynn officiating. Interment will then follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens at Fairmont.
