Forest Lynn Spurgeon
Forest Lynn Spurgeon, 84, a resident of Darlynn Road, Philippi, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 23, 2017, at his residence.
He was born May 3, 1933, in Moatsville, a son of the late Alfred Stillman and Louella Ray (Bolyard) Spurgeon.
He was united in marriage June 3, 1962 to, Wilma (Hymes) Spurgeon, who survives. Also surviving are: one daughter, Karen Mercer and husband, Philip, of Philippi; three grandchildren, William Lynn Hess and wife, Sarah Elizabeth, of Hawaii; Sarah Elizabeth Sphon and husband, Clyde, of Fairmont and Adam Mercer, of Philippi; five great-grandchildren, Briella Lynn Sphon, Alanah Elizabeth Sphon, William Stewart “Liam” Hess, Amelia Simone Hess and Shayla George.
Mr. Spurgeon was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Pauline Hershman and Wilma Coffman; and one granddaughter, Phoebe Mercer.
He served in the U.S. Army retiring as a Master Sergeant; he retired from the WVDOH as a truck driver and was an avid farmer.
He was a member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday, June 27, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, June 28, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. the service hour with Rev. Dr. Robert Sisler officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with military honors being accorded.
