Joan “Joanne” Nelson Thompson, 81, of Circleville, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born on April 5, 1936, in Circleville, the daughter of the late Forest and Gracie (Phares) Nelson.

Joan married Carl Thompson, who preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2003.

Mrs. Thompson attended Circleville High School and was a member of High Rock United Methodist Church and Dixie CEOS. She had worked at Franklin Garment Co. and Head Start and retired from Circleville Post Office after working for 25 years as a clerk and postmaster.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by two daughters, Linda Harper and husband, David, of Elkins and Debra Ann Dolly and husband, Donald, of Petersburg; two sons, Carl Thomas Thompson and companion, Rhonda, of Circleville and Douglas Glen Thompson and wife, Janet, of Circleville; a sister, Willa Jane Nelson of Riverton; a brother, Dwight Nelson and wife, Virginia, of Riverton; five grandchildren, Joshua James Thomspon, Tracy Ann Berg, Bryant Tyler Harper, Bryten Thomas Thompson and Katie Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Brycen Keplinger and Carroll Shelby Thompson; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Skylar Rohrbaugh.

Mrs. Thompson’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 6-8 p.m. at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Cindy Skinner officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton.
