Carol Shipp

Carol Shipp, 81, a native of Elkins and a resident of Rockville, Maryland, for many years, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, in the Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville.

She was born March 9, 1936, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Ira “Doc” and Edith Hewitt Poling.

On April 14, 1956, in Elkins, she was married to Fred Franklin Shipp, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Ricky Dean Shipp and wife, Linda, of Ijamsville, Maryland, and Michael Eugene Shipp and wife, Laquita, of Charles Town. Two grandchildren, Tyler Shipp and Philip Andrews and wife, Alison, also survive.

Also preceding her in death was one sister, Patricia Ann Hazelwood.

Mrs. Shipp attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed as a teacher’s aide for the Montgomery County Schools for 24 years at the time of her retirement. She was a member of Rockville Christian Church in Rockville, Maryland.

Friends may call from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
