Denver A. Hawkins Sr., 74, of the Alton Road, French Creek, died at his home on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, under the care of his family and West Virginia Hospice.

He was born Sept. 7, 1943, in Upshur County, a son of the late Artie and Lola Crawford Hawkins.

He was united in marriage on Oct. 27, 1962, to Charlotte Eskew Hawkins, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Denver A. Hawkins Jr. of French Creek; one daughter, Rhonda Hawkins and life partner, Ed Sundling, of Charleston; five grandchildren, Christopher Hawkins, Nicholas Hawkins and Taelor Sundling, all of Charleston, Daniel Hawkins of Morgantown and Dillon Hawkins of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three sisters, Patty and husband, Roger Johnston, of French Creek, Bonnie L. Woody of French Creek and Connie and husband, Ronnie Roth, of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Sharon Hawkins, Helen Alderman and Betty Roy; and one brother, Norman Hawkins.

Denver worked in the coal mines, in construction and was a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid outdoorsman.

At the request of the deceased, the body will be cremated. There will be a gathering of family and friends for a celebration of his life at a later date.
