Viola Gay Richman

Viola Gay Richman, 90, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at the home of Junior and Louetta Haller, following an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 19, 1926, at Arden, a daughter of the late Wayne Jack Mitchell and the late Rhoda Pearl (Poe) Mitchell.

On Nov. 11, 1972, she was married to Charles Henry Richman, who preceded her in death on May 25, 2008.

Surviving are one cousin, John Richman, who operated her farm; special friends, Junior and Louetta Haller, who provided home health care to her for over eight years; three nieces, Pam Johnson, Sandra Johnson and Dianne Warren; and a sister-in-law, Inez May Johnson.

She also was preceded in death by one niece, Peggy Gwinn; one nephew, Eddie Jarvis; and by a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Jarvis.

Mrs. Richman enjoyed shopping, embroidery, cross stitching, and her dog, Duke. She loved spending many hours on the porch watching traffic while petting many of the area cats.

She was employed in Philippi as a sales clerk for over 35 years. She was a member of the Mt. Morris United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher.

The family wants to give a special thanks to the WV Caring Hospice staff for all the wonderful professional care and services that were provided.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 966 S. Main St., Philippi. The Rev. Jimmie Johnson and The Rev. Gina Stewart will officiate, and interment will follow in the Mt. Morris Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, on Tuesday.
