Barbara Jan Rice Giles

Barbara Jan Rice Giles, 62, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Thursday morning, Nov. 9, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of West Virginia Caring. She had been in declining health.

She was born Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1955, at Elkins, a daughter of the late James Nutter Rice and Barbara Ann Tabscott “Bobby” Rice.

On June 4, 1977 at Elkins, she was married to Daniel David Giles, who survives. They had celebrated 40 years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Aaron Giles and wife, Ashli, of Morgantown; one daughter, Kristin Young and husband, Phillip, of Beckley; three sisters, Joyce Hammer and late husband, Mike, and Jo Snedegar and late husband, Max, all of Tucson, Arizona, and her twin, Beth Phillips Painter and husband, Bill, of Elkins; one granddaughter, Adalyn Young; and one grandson on the way, Landon Young; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1973 and a graduate of Potomac State with the class of 1975. She was an employee of the Randolph County School system as a teacher aide with the kindergarten and preschool. She loved working with children and spending time outside, gardening, camping and fishing, especially at Burnsville Lake.

Mrs. Giles request for cremation was honored. On Friday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan Catholic Church the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rev. Mr. Raymond G. Godwin will officiate, and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins.
