Julia ‘Liz’ Harvey


Julia “Liz” Harvey, 94, a former resident of Weirton, and has lived in Elkins with her daughter, Linda Freeman and husband, Chuck, since 2005, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital Morgantown.

Julia Elizabeth Harvey was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Weirton, a daughter of the late John and Julia Sweda.

On May 4, 1944, she married George E. “Bud” Harvey, and they were married 64 years.

She was a longtime member of the Weirton United Methodist Church and had an affiliation with Orlena United Methodist Church at Gilman.

Surviving are two sons, George E. Harvey III and wife, Kaye, of Jensen Beach, Florida, and David Bruce Harvey and wife, Betty, of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Linda J. Freeman and husband, Chuck, of Elkins; seven grandchildren, Leslie Harvey, decease, George E. Harvey IV of Jensen Beach, Florida, Chad Freeman of Buckhannon, Alexis Freeman Bridges of Raeford, North Carolina, Dr. Mark Harvey of Portland, Oregon, Erin Harvey Kuykendall of San Antonio, Texas, and Douglas Harvey of Austin, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren, Kailey, Presley, Carson, Abigail, Millie, Bella and Lily. She has many nieces and nephews.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George; granddaughter, Leslie Harvey; sisters, Anna Ziklo, Betty Yovich and Mary Senker; and brothers, Pete and John Sweda.

Liz graduated from Weir High School in 1940. She prided herself in being a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling world-wide with friends and family, camping, spending winters in Florida, and visiting her children and grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will directly follow the visitation in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kaye Harvey officiating. On Tuesday, she will be moved to the Chapel Hill Cemetery Mausoleum at Weirton, for a committal service at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow.
